One day he walked into the operating theatre but due to some complications he came out in a wheelchair, he had completely lost mobility and sensation in both legs.
After an operation that resulted in a spinal cord injury, Cristián was destined to live in a wheelchair. Thanks to the support of his family who never gave up, he has trained every day with TRAINFES and with his efforts he managed to walk again.
Cristián was in his first year of university when a problem near his spine was detected. An operation was necessary. That day he walked into the operating theatre but due to some complications he left in a wheelchair, he had completely lost mobility and sensibility in both legs. His diagnosis was complete spinal cord injury.
He had to freeze university, stopped playing the music he loved so much and was paralysed, physically and psychologically. But his family was there to support him constantly, especially his mother who did not give up and kept looking for alternatives that could help her son, until finally a hospital in Spain recommended the use of TRAINFES.
"Two years ago I couldn't feel or move my legs, today I can walk".
At first there was not much response, for the first few months she had no visible contractions. But in the third month she started to feel the electrodes. By the fourth month she had a little more muscle. By the sixth month the contraction was enough to overcome gravity. And it was then that she dared to stand up, always holding on to some parallel bars that her mother had obtained for her. From that point onwards he continued to make steady progress, never missing a day of training at home. Birthdays, holidays, holidays, all were training days, every day a little more progress. At the end of 2019 Cristián climbed all the steps of the Bahai temple in Santiago by himself, his goal was not impossible, he walked again.
Today Cristián is back at university, back to playing guitar and still training every day, improving his gait little by little, with unmatched consistency.
