He started his treatment with our functional electrostimulation program in July. Due to the pandemic, she had to cut short her other rehabilitation treatments. Below, her daughters tell how she has been able to overcome it.
In September 2019, Adrian suffered an ischemic stroke, which affected the mobility of his left side and also his speech. Today, months after this episode, he is beginning to recover functions such as walking and speech from his home.
Together with his wife and daughters, he lives in Chincolco, a town in the commune of Petorca. From there, his daughter Adriana told us about her experience with the use of TrainFES electrostimulation.
Thanks to a television report, Adriana and her sisters came to know TrainFES as an alternative treatment for their father and quickly got in touch. With Covid all rehabilitation was postponed, for example, he could not go to the CESFAM where he was doing his rehabilitation with a kinesiologist. "We needed this system. I made the contacts, I asked the amounts, we talked about it at home and we agreed. The truth is that it has been incredible.
Although Adrian left the program in the second week of July, his daughter can already see the progress.
In a first stage, he had to learn to walk in the CESFAM. However, his family knows that the after-effects could have been more serious, like the patients they were able to see in the two and a half months he was hospitalized. "Many are left feeding through tubes or wearing diapers. The truth is that my dad didn't want any of that. Even though we couldn't understand him, between signs, we tried to deduce what he wanted to say".
Until the day of the stroke, Adrian was a very active man. He lived all his life in the countryside, he is a cattle rancher and his life is animals. His work is physical, he rode horses in rodeos. The truth is that getting on a horse now has been almost impossible. We need him to be sure of himself first, so we can help him get on a horse. In the meantime, we are trying to mobilize him by vehicle to where his animals are. That is the only thing we can help him with to keep him happy. So that he is also motivated to exercise," says his daughter. In the area where they live, the drought was critical. Many animals died and she thinks that the stroke may have been triggered by all the stress her father had to deal with.
"Luckily in June a lot of good things came together, the rain, my dad's desire, seeing the grass grow, the TrainFES therapy."
Despite the short time that her father has been using the program, Adriana sees that today she is standing and walking (even without crutches inside the house). In addition, as a result of the stroke, the color of half of her body was purple and the other half was a normal color. But when she started the TrainFES exercises, her body remained the same color.
He also had very noticeable swelling in his wrist and knuckles. "He started with this therapy and it has been amazing, now both his hands are the same. He is too excited about it all, because you can see the difference," she explains.
When the equipment arrived, they quickly arranged an appointment with the kinesiologist so that he could teach them how to use the equipment and get started. "We had no idea about any of this and by video call the kinesiologist taught us. From how to use the application from the phone, to how to apply the patches and what function each exercise we were doing was going to perform. It was a complete training; we met twice a week for a month. All the sessions we had were very thorough, because I had a lot of questions from the team. He was very clear on the answers and how to help us.
Of particular note is the speed and willingness of TrainFES professionals to provide advice at all times.
"You don't have to be computer to be able to operate the device. Anyone can use it. You don't have to complicate things, here they send you everything. You just have to have a telephone, the desire to do it and the availability to help the person. Just get there and start.
Initially, what attracted Adriana's attention most about the system were the good results in people with strokes. That prompted them even more strongly to take the treatment.
For the evaluation prior to contracting the program, TrainFES professionals had Adriana's father do many exercises to see what he could and could not do. "According to the diagnosis - they asked me for all the clinical information - I was fit to take the treatment. They told me that the more information the better to know what condition my dad was in."
I would recommend TrainFES for someone who is in a similar situation to my dad and in fact, I already did. I wish all people going through something like this could take this treatment. In such a short time I see results in my dad and that is super gratifying. TrainFES was a super good alternative. Today he is alone with this treatment. This has changed our lives, because we are at home, you have everything. The important thing is that the person is willing and available.
